NAIONAL OCEAN INFORMATION SYSTEM(NOIS)
The National Ocean Information System (NOIS) seeks to ensure productive and purposeful use of the information generated by the R&D institutions through a network of data centres. Having to share and exchange data and information, NOIS has identified expert R & D institutions specialising in ocean science and technology and established National Marine Data Centres to accomplish the objectives of collection, collation, validation, storage and dissemination of data and information. The names of the data centres and the parameters assigned to them, are given in the table 1.
Mode of operation of Marine Data Centres:
In order to enable the centres to exchange the data among themselves and also with other centres a satellite based network system with the help of National Informatics Centre has been established. This involves installation of C-200' Micro Earth Stations (MES) at all the marine data centres. The NICNET facility at NIC, New Delhi, acts as Master Earth Station for the NOIS data exchange programme.
