9.1 Use of Hindi

During 1996-97 all the possible efforts were made by the Deptt. to further to promote progessive use of Hindi in official work. Meetings of Official Language Implementation committee were held regularly.

Based on the progress of Hindi made by the Deptt. during 1995-96, it was awarded Second prize under Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award Scheme. Hon"ble President of India presented Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Shield on 14th Sept. 1996 in a Prize distribution function held in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Annual Report, performance Budget, Demands for Grants, all Cabinet reports and documents presented to the Standing Committee and Consultative Committee of Parliament etc. were prepared bilingually.

Hindi fortnight was organised in the Deptt from 1st to 15th Sept., 1996. During this fortnight Hindi essay writing, typing, noting and drafting and debate competitions were held and prizes were distributed.

During this fortnight a five days Hindi workshop was organised in which officers /employees were given practical training on Hindi noting and drafting.

15 employees were awarded cash prizes for doing their official work originally in Hindi under of Ministry of Home Affairs the Incentive scheme.

Dr. Madhusudan Tripathi and Smt. Renu Tripathi were awarded jointly third prize of Rs. 10,000/- for their book "Mahasagar (Arthik Avum Prakritik) under the "Mahasagar Vikas Vibhag Puraskar Yojana 1993" for original Hindi Book writing.

Stenographers and typists are being trained in Hindi stenography and typewriting under the departmental arrangement. One Junior translator was sent to Central Translation Bureau on three Months' training.
