The research and development in different disciplines of Ocean Science and
Technology should address various basic issues and processes leading to fundamental
understanding of oceans and enhancing our capability in development of appropriate
technology. This puts heavy demand on fully trained personnel. To achieve these
objectives, the Department supports basic research in Marine Science and awards
fellowships and scholarships, assists Universities and Research institutions to create
infrastructure and facilities for research and manpower training and organises seminars,
workshops etc. The facilities on research vessels ORV Sagar Kanya and FORV Sagar
Sampada have also been extended to the research fellows under the programme.
