2.4 Antarctic Study Centre

The Antarctic Study Centre is being established as a national facility for conducting front ranking research in the fields of polar science. When fully operational, it will have a unique facility for sub-zero temperature research on ice cores retrieved not only from Antarctica, but also from the Himalayas. It will also comprise an Antarctic museum and a data-base repository on polar sciences. The construction of the Phase I of the building including the administrative and logistic blocks is in progress. The Phase II of the Centre which includes the various laboratories has already been conceptualised.
