6. MARINE INSTRUMENTATION AND SYSTEMS

The Department has initiated activities for indigenous design and development of Marine Instruments for the purpose of exploration and exploitation of Ocean resources.

So far the instruments developed are (i) free fall Bathythermograph for measurement of temperature at various depths, (ii) Vector averaging currentmeter for recording water currents, (iii) Digital tide guage for recording the tide height periodically and (iv), Microprocessor based multiparameter system for measurement of nutrients of sea water for smaller depths. Shore to Fishing Vessels Communication System Project has been undertaken with a view to providing communication facilities to fishermen at sea.
